CV Advice

  1. Sell yourself! Highlight your key selling points, skills and capabilities.
  2. Tailor your CV for each position that you apply for.
  3. Use language the employer will understand.
  4. Check your CV as many times as necessary to get it perfect and use the spell check facility to make
sure there are no mistakes! Then get someone else to check it.
  5. Understand technology well enough to make sure you can safely send your CV electronically to the
company that you are applying for (i.e., use a universal font).
  6. Keep it to no more than two pages.
  7. Try to give enough information without it being too wordy or too brief. It should be concise not
    repetitive.
  8. Use bulletpoints.
  9. Pay more attention to the content of the CV rather than the presentation of it.
  10. Make sure the CV includes the following and ideally runs in this order:
    • Basic details
    • Personal statement (optional)
    • Recent employment history first with dates & basic outline of key achievements/job function
(unless you are a graduate with little experience then start with education)
    • Education list (but don't list every GCSE/O Level)
    • Contact details
